BioDual
BioDual targets ecology minded consumers by providing a new experience during its use and disposal. This packaging can contain two separate liquids providing the consumer with the opportunity to either mix them or consume them individually. The label provides all the necessary information in order to make communication more effective.
This bottle can be reused and then be disposed as compost. This way, it supports the growing framework of urban gardening at home, which is an ongoing project promoted by FAO in order to generate greener cities in Latin America.
Concept
Problem background:
Colombia generates 27,500 tons of solid waste daily. Through the analysis of environmental issues, it was found that around 50% of all solid waste in Colombia corresponds to used packaging, specially PET packaging.
In order to reduce this amount of waste by generating a sustainable alternative, it was necessary to find an alternative biopolymer that can replace PET. PLA can perfectly substitute PET since the former has similar mechanical properties and it is completely compostable. Laboratory tests were performed to obtain a suitable biopolymer to be use in injection molding.
